New musical "Got To Tell It" shares glorious story...

Updated: Dec 19, 2023

Discover the heart and soul of AHHH! Stage and Media Productions, where passion, diversity, and artistry converge. Join us in the extraordinary world of storytelling as we delve into the genesis of "Got to Tell It: The Musical" and the profound vision of the founder, Angela Hall.

A new musical for Christians is coming to White Plains, NY in February 2024. Featuring a tale full of twists and turns, we follow the story of a young woman who starts the play at the Brooklyn Bridge in the rain under rather heavy circumstances. But a chance encounter changes everything. With catchy tunes (trust us, we got to preview!) you'll be singing the whole way home, this show will have you smiling hard but thinking harder as it challenges the status quo of the black church.

Although the musical is set to stage it's first public staged reading February 24th, it faces noteable challenges without the continued support of the black community - to participate in and back the production. Angela has put out calls for actors and stage hands for reharsals that begin in January and February as she sources local talent for this "FUBU" production.

We sat down with the playwright and founder of the backing production company "AHHH! Stage and Media Productions" to talk about the project, it's challenges and it's message as she continues to gather traction.

Interviewer: I know we don't want to reveal too much about the plot but can you tell us some of the themes and central messages embedded within "Got to Tell It, the Musical"?

Hall: The musical explores the struggles within the Black Church. It tackles themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of God. It sparks conversations about forgiveness within the church, homelessness, and the redemptive quality found in unexpected places.

Interviewer: What conversations do you hope the play will spark with your audience? Why do you want to share this now?

Hall: I hope it opens discussions on being true people of God, having forgiving hearts, and bringing people back into the fold, no matter the sin. I want more talk about the need for forgiveness within the Black Church, the struggles of its leaders, and the harsh judgments we often impose.

Interviewer: What can the audience expect from the music in "Got to Tell It"?

Hall: I'm excited about the collaboration and showcasing the incredible talent of the Hall family. The musical will feature original gospel music that has been around for years, now given a fresh twist. Expect a jam that connects with your soul.

Interviewer: What inspired you to write "Got to Tell It, the Musical" and found its production house, "AHHH!"?

Hall: For the longest time, I wanted to find a way to honor my brother, Kenneth Hall. He wrote a gospel song entitled "Got to Tell It." When my brother, Jonathan Hall, and I collaborated on my debut gospel CD (Beautiful God, 2008) we decided to commemorate a song that utilized one of Kenny's pieces, giving birth to the Victory Medley. That's when the idea for the musical started taking shape. I've been quietly writing plays, essays, poetry, and movie shorts for a long time, waiting for someone to give me a role. One day, inspired by friends and Tyler Perry's documentary, I realized I should make my own art. Thus, AHHH! Stage and Media Productions was born.

Interviewer: Got it! So it's helping you achieve this goal of producing the musical. Tell me more about what AHHH! should mean to other people.

Hall: I want people to feel like "AHHH, that was fantastic!" Our stories and music are relatable, creating a human connection. AHHH represents incredible, memorable theater that resonates across cultures. Entertainment changes lives, builds confidence, and makes people feel alive.

Interviewer: Is AHHH focused solely on gospel music productions?

Hall: While "Got to Tell It" is a gospel musical, AHHH! Stage and Media Productions will explore various genres, from poetry to stage plays, film, and television. The aim is to create a diverse and inclusive platform for creative expression.

Interviewer: After February 24th, what's is the next step for "Got to Tell It" and AHHH! Stage and Media Productions?

Hall: I'm considering whether the next step is a film short or a staged play, but I'm also open to producing works written by others. The journey has just begun, and the possibilities are limitless.
